Earlier this week there was an announcement from apple and Vodafone, that they will be brining the iPhone to more countries. The sales of the iPhone in the last year have been phenomenal and with the extension to 10 more countries it is expected that the high sales numbers will increase. Apple has been questions about their approach to delivering the iPhone to a couple of countries first. Part of this will of course create an even bigger hype once it is finally launched, but a source in Apple said that they simply can’t keep production in line with demand. And their goal at the start was to make sure that they can supply the US market first and then take it from there.

Countries with the iPhone

  • United States of America
  • Great Britain
  • France
  • Germany
  • Austria.

This roll out has been longer than expected, and in the past months Apples share price has had a high volatility. Last month Apple’s iTunes surpassed WallMart as the top music seller in the US

Here is a quick video of one of the first car games for the apple iPhone. It has been developed by Int13, a French mobile game developer. The game itself looks very much like a watered down version of mario kart, but still it’s very entertaining. Check the video:

iPhone Car Game Features

  1. Large enough screen size 320 by 320 pixels playing area
  2. Touch sensitive controls, for the steering wheel. Touch free controls also possible, in the future via the tilt monitors on the phone.
  3. 3 different vehicle classes (motorcycles, hovercrafts and karts).
  4. 6 different characters with different vehicles and skills.
  5. Downloadable content (new vehicles, new tracks) available from the retailer.
  6. Wifi online multiplayer with match making and up to four simultaneous players at once.

Once Apple release the SDK (software developers kit) for the iPhone I’m sure there will be a rush of games and applications for the iPhone. It will almost be a whole year since they launched the phone, until they could launch the SDK.

A story from BusinessWeek suggests that because the apple iPhone is starting to sell out in some Apple Stores, that it’s possible the new version is soon on the way. If stocks are lowering and they are not being replaced, one reason could be that Apple are not giving their stores iPhones v1 because v2 is soon to be on the way. It is also possible that there maybe be a lack of iPhones being manufactured, due to some manufacturing problems.

So there we have it, are they stopping producing the iPhone v1 in order to build up stocks of the newer version. With up to 20 US Apple Stores sold out of the iPhone, and no known date for a restock it has to be looking this way. Bring on the 3G iPhone !

Often people have been asking what the iPhone second version will look like. Already this year we’ve seen the iTouch increasing in size options, and now you can get the 32 Gigabyte version. Currently the iPhone only ships with 8GB or 16GB. So the iPhone version 1.5 will at least contain more storage space. In the 2nd round of things we are predicting that the iPhone will decrease in size (weight/thickness and dimensions) and that they will finally add the faster 3G network capability.

We also expect that the display will be at a higher resolution, so that images/movies and internet browsing is easier on your eyes. Granted these are just our predictions and you can never know what Apple will have up.

Here are some links for this Monday, some things worth reading from around the web :

  • Tips on how to fix your iPod with a piece of paper from the New York Times. People are coming up with new ways to fix iPods and other apple products
  • You can visit the food network on your iPhone , from FileUnderAwesome. I wonder how many other cool sites are iPhone-Friendly.
  • Ryan Block from Engadge fame added a 64Gb SSD (solid state hard disk) to his Mac Book. Ryan includes lots of pictures of the whole process. This baby would probably be the quietest Mac yet.
  • chris.pirillo.com lists off his top 100 Mac Apps. Time to check these out and see which ones I am missing.
