Here is a list of the new features that will be on the updated firmware from Apple on their iPhone product.
- “Now Playing controls throughout”. This will make it easier to control the iPhone, from what ever screen you are on.
- When double clicking the home screen goes to “Favorites” or “iPod”
- iTunes Wifi Store. This was announced for the iPod Touch earlier this month, so it’s not that much of a surprise.
- 5 Additional iPod features:
- Closed captioning and support for video out. This will be great for watching foreign movies
- New Calculator icon on the home screen. Not a big deal, but again might be handy for foreign exchange calculations
- Multiple, international keyboards. Wow we are really getting international here. ça’va ?
- Network setup with VPN support and disabling EDGE while roaming.
- A Carrier menu. Hopefully this is to select different carriers while roaming, to use a home network affiliate. For example, I travel to England and can insert an O2 SIM, or I can use an Irish SIM when I am in Ireland, all on the same iPhone.

So there you have it, iPhone v1.1 looks like it is getting more of an international flavour. So what will v1.2 bring ?

With the latest release of iTunes, there is now the facility for you to buy ringtones and upload them to your cool Apple iPhone. These ringtones will cost 99 cents each for the 30 second snippet of the song.

Personally we don’t think it’s worth it, as there are other ways of getting iPhone ringtones for free.
For Free iPhone Ringtones
Last week we read that all officially purchased ringtones have the .M4R extension, so all you have to do is rename any AAC file to a M4R extension file to get it to show up in iTunes under Ringtones.
Simple and yet so easy
